Menswear Collection
NGINGU debuted its menswear collection which is inspired by the South African subculture known as Pantsula. Pantsula is a South African subculture that has existed since the apartheid era. It developed into a form of social commentary for black South African in townships and undergone a several transformations with the country's changing political tides. Pantsula was used as an expression of resistance during political struggle, as well as used to spread awareness about social issues. After the end of apartheid in 1994, Pantsula persisted as an expression of cultural roots for many black South Africans. The culture has since gained popularity in other communities of South Africa and these days amapantsula are most known for their style of dance. The collection dives into the Pantsula culture and reflects on the style, dance and music of the culture through contemporary designs, prints and colours.
